If you know anyone else that doesn't get on here, please pass the info along so we can keep everyone in the loop. I feel like its time to migrate away from tribe....at least for our discussions ect. Most people use email everyday so it seems like the best idea to me. You guys are all on my facebook, tribe and myspace but i dont have anyone's email address.

My slide got stolen out of my back yard this morning. :( They took the base of the slide but not the tube part because that part is in the garage. I have no idea why someone would want to take something like that however its costing me another 70$ to buy a new slide. This really sux as i have no job right now. So if someone can help out with getting some inner tubes for the Warrior Sperm Joust that would be great. I'm already working on puget sticks right now. Even if one of you guys can borrow 2 tubes and bring it here just for flipside that would help me out immensely. 2 vinyl floats would work also as long as their round and the same size.

Also with the lack of participation and help, im not able to do the Conception Races. If someone wants to step up to the plate and help me with budgeting and a small amount of craft work we could pull it off. We just need 2 inflatable rafts and 1 round float for the egg party.

So i got the map of our official placement and they fucked up it looks like. Both our camp and Lava Lounge have been given 49. From looking at it, it looks like we're 34 not 49 (check out http://burningflipside.com/map_bf08_placement_v7e.pdf to see what im talking about) i emailed michael 7.0 to make sure but it looks like we're in the same location that they gave us before.

Also another thing, since i was out on the lake on Sunday I wasnt able to make it out to work week for the flag marking territorial theme camp pissing match. Sorry about that. From looking at the map we still have plenty of space for us all but its looking like we'll need to meet our neighbors, say hi, share a beer and coordinate our spots with them so that there isnt any confusion. Whoever is out there first should go ahead and try and mark off the territory along with collaborating with the neighboring camps for space. I dont expect any problems but its good to make everyone aware. I should be able to get out there in the afternoon however If im waiting for the base of my slide to be delivered some of you might beat me to the punch. No worries because camp placement will guide you to the spot and work with you on marking out our space. Be sure to save me a spot for my tent next to any hot single chicks!! ;P

In other news there a few items that are very much in need still that should be VERY easy to make. We still desperately need a sign made. This is to help new us find the spot easily from the road along with our other friends in other camps wanting to find us. I asked arron to make one and print one out however I'm not sure how reliable that is. I mostly just need a confirmation from someone to make a sign. Also we still need to flags made. The sign and flag can be the same thing (sounds easiest to me) and has been highly requested to all camps for the procession. I think it will also make it easier for us to find each other during the burn so if someone can confirm they can and will make this it would be a great benefit to the community.

More news: i got 2 inner tubes kicked down to me however i need to test it on a pool. If anyone wants to do some sperm jousting later on this afternoon/evening please let me know. I'll have the sticks finished by then and be ready to blast facials with the sperm jousting sticks. This is important to making sure that event runs smoothly. Also if anyone can donate some kind of gifts for the winner that is very much needed. It can be anything like whippets, shots, little gifts ect. Something to create a reward system for participants would rock. The whippet idea got lots of smiles when i mentioned it but really just donating something small...if everyone did that we could have some nice gifts for the winners. Not to mention it draws in participants.

For the newbies...bring mess kits rather than paper plates, plastic cutlery and plastic cups if at all possible. The paper/plastic dinnerware just result in more MOOP to clean up and haul away at the end of the event. With a camp of 20-25 people eating 2-3 times a day, not having to throw away plates and dinnerware could mean the difference between hauling out 5 or 6 bags of trash or 8-10 bags of trash.

And, no, that doesn't mean leaving your dirty dishes in a bin for someone to clean after you're fed. Unless your name is Shakti or Lilly, your momma probably isn't going to be at Flipside. :-)

How badly do you want to bring a sound system out for our camp? I feel it would be nice but am not sure I want to expend the effort and money, to be blunt. IMHO, bringing a sound system is a slippery slope because it requires:

- The speaker rental... it was around $200 in 2006
- Someone to bring the required CDJs, Turntables, and DJ Mixer... or extra $ to rent this stuff
- A generator and enough fuel to run it. (~$300+... $150 to $200 for the genny and the rest for fuel... 10 gallons per day * 4 days)
- A sizeable amount of transportation space - in '06 we rented a truck. Won't need that this time but the speakers are big and will definitely require a trailer or most of an SUV
- Vigilence to keep the equipment dry and secure 24*7
- Ideally a lot more effort on lighting and deco than I was thinking we'd spend. If we are going to the effort to bring tunes, I'd like to go all the way and finish it off with a nice visual space, too.

All in all I'd guess we'd end up spending at least $600 (probably more like $800) and a lot more elbow grease to make this happen. Do we want to do this? And can you commit to sharing in the cost and work?

Kinda like what we did this year at burning man with the glow stick ring on top off the pole at burn night. It really did help everyone stay together.

I've been to Interfuse a few years now (and various inbetween events at Ozarks) and on the wings of an angel I have been delivered a coveted last-minute ticket to Flipside. I AM however trying to scramble to get myself down there (most likely I'll drive myself since I've driven to SXSW a few times before) and also as importantly, figure out where to camp. I'm sure no one will leave me homeless once I get there as I've made friends w/peeps from various camps, but I read that maybe your spot would be more chill near the water and I thought that sounded awesome. (I'm a Pisces ya!!!) I like sleep. Don't get me wrong, I drankydrank and dance my ass off, but this is like 5 days and I don't have any sleeping pills, so I'm looking into some options here!!! ;D

Also, I work at Hallmark so glitter, old greeting cards, balloons, partysupplies, etc... are easy for me to quickly and cheaply get my hands on. I would really love to be able to participate w/the camp I stay with!!! Ok, hope to hear back soon! thanks for reading.

A lot of you I've already told this idea to. This was an idea that Josh (Skywise) and I came up with while catching up one day on the phone. If you haven't heard what it is here is a summary:

Become born again at It's your Birthday Camp where its always your birthday!

This idea is more of a day time activity type camp where we'll have a slip n slide lathered in "baby" oil and water where participants if they so choose to get in their "birthday suits" and slide down the slip n slide to a large vagina where camp members in lab coats can pull them out of the vagina, spank them, give them a piece of birthday cake with a lit candle, have them make a wish, blow out the candle and give them Bicardi to party like its their birthday all day long ;) I'd also like to have cigars to hand out and smoke. Josh also thought of the idea of giving them birth certificates too.

As for the construction of the large vagina I thought the best idea would be to use memory foam coated in latex. I found this place:

http://www.foamorder.com/memory.html#customshapes

They can make custom shaped memory foam for relatively cheap. Its @ 15-30$ for pieces ranging from 3x18x12 inches or so. You can get quotes from the website by putting in the dimensions. They also do custom shapes too!

Neoprene was another idea to use a coating.

http://www.foamorder.com/neoprene.html

Its the same stuff used for wet suits and is pretty cheap if you order sheets of it. I also found places that can do sheets of latex as well

http://grand-fiberglass.en.alibaba.com/product/10282869/10378657/High_Temperature_Resistant_Products/Rubber_Plates_Rolls.html

Another idea was to use liquid latex paint and paint the foam pieces a skin tone color. I think that building a frame using some kind of pipe or tubing through the memory foam pieces would work. Id like the structure to be durable and weather proof. People are going to be sliding into it. We can decide how tight this vag will be. Like if people can just slide right through like a Mexican whore or have to be pulled out of it once they reach the end by camp members in lab coats. I kinda like that idea because it requires interaction...plus its more like a birth. Also any kind of el-wire ideas or lights to light up the vag at night would be cool but again this is more of a day time event where people hardly wear clothes during the day at flipside.

Another idea that was brought to my attention was having inter tubes to act as the vaginal wall or "tunnel of love" where the slip n slide goes into 2-3 partly blown up inter tubes. I also thought about making an interactive art project where while inside the tube there is a spot on the top they can press. The G-spot where if pressed the structure would make moaning noises. Participants can interact with the G-spot and then finally come out to be born again. They can be born again as many times as they like and it will ALWAYS be your birthday at its your birthday camp.

We could add a small sound system playing some kind of party music fitted for the day. Any other types of structures such as domes ect are also gladly welcomed to establish our presence. It also can lead to other ideas to do during the night like when we did Temporary Arbitrary Cult camp.

So far the biggest challenge is constructing the big vagina. Slip n slides, lab coats, cigars, baby oil and Bacardi can all be easily obtained. Someone can bake a few birthday cakes, cut out pieces and hand them out to participants. I'd like this to have a party atmosphere. People can come and party if they want, become born again, have a cigar ect. Whatever is clever. Perhaps having placement near the creek would be good since people will be coming from or going to the creek. Id like it to be somewhere where the large vagina cant be missed. I mean it shouldnt be that hard to see naked people going down a slip n slide and going through a big vagina ya know?

*ANY and ALL* ideas welcome. I've told this idea to quire a few people who seem to be on board. I'd like to create a new tribe for it too as well but since this tribe is like my flipside family...perhaps we can just change the name again this year? Either way is fine by me. Let me know what you think and If this something that you'd like to design, create, add, participate and PARTY LIKE ITS YOUR BIRTHDAY all day long ;)

Greetings Michael,

On Wed, Apr 9, 2008 at 1:31 PM, Theme Camp Placement FS08 <themecampplacement08@burningflipside.com> wrote:

Josh,

I received your camp's request for placement and noticed that you requested to be located at the Creek. For Safety reasons, we don't allow anyone to camp down there. A flash flood in that area will wipe everything out fast. If you recall, we actually closed the creek down for a little while last year during the massive rains.

That said, I don't think having a non-amplified, interactive structure at the creek will be an issue.

In terms of a camping spot, there is a location at the top of the hill outside of the cave mouth. This is THE most requested location at Flipside. Everyone wants to be located there. Additionally, the acoustics in that area magnify sound tenfold. Everything bounces off the cliff face. Case in point: We heard someone spinning fire at the creek side up by where ISH was. So... your sound system could have an impact.

This year, we are not allowing amplified music at the creek at all. Last year, we got way too many complaints.

Will you be able to make it to the next Work Weekend? I'd like to help you guys find a perfect spot, but you've pretty much asked to be placed where no one gets placed.

Let's talk.

~ Michael 7.0

---

Greetings Michael,

We dont want to camp per say at the creek. Only the vagina slide will be there. Its totally waterproof so if a flash flood happens then it will only affect that structure to witch i'm totally cool with. The structure will be firmly planted using a metal frame so a flood shouldn't move it. We're not going to have a sound system at the creek. Its too much trouble and I figured that you guys wouldnt allow a sound system to stay down there. Its critical however that our slide be at the creek because its a water slide.

As for placement by the creek for the rest of our stuff such as shade structure, tents ect (aka womb) yeah the cave mouth sounds perfect! However i agree about the sound system. We're not a rawkin sound camp, its mostly just to create a relaxing chillout type spot. I personally would rather not be in sound town because i'd like to get some sleep :) We dont plan on going all night either. So perhaps we can find a spot that will work the best for everyone.

Thanks for the placement! I'm going to run this by some of my camp mates and try and decide what to do about the sound issue. I personally want that spot but i also want whats best for the community in terms of sound policies.

Is the work weekend this weekend? This saturday im going to out on a boat on lake travis, so if thats when it is I wont be able to be there however I do plan on going out to a work weekend and helping out. Let me check with some camp members and I will let you know ASAP.

Thanks again!

Josh

---

So the main things we need to work out is:

a. where do we want to camp exactly?

b. how does that spot work with the current sound policy?

c. how loud do we want to be?

As you can see we were granted the most request spot by the creek tunnel. :) The problem is that we cant be very loud there. The convince is that we're not in sound town so we'll be able to sleep. FS has a lot of sound camps. Sound town only covers a portion of the property so that means that space there will be hard to come by and it will be loud. Quite possibly in a spot where multiple camps are bleeding. I dont know about you guys but id like to get some sleep and I like the idea of having our little "quiet spot at home" Also the advantage is that we're right by the creek when we want to go swimming or need to take supplies down to the creek during the day. I know some of you guys liked the spot last year but I'm afraid of it being loud there. Also it would *really* help our art project at the creek to be closer to it.

We also need to determine how loud we plan on being. How loud of a sound system we plan on getting, who will be djing, who can provide music, how serious we are about our sound. Questions such as are we really wanting to entertain the community with music or are more wanting to entertain ourselves? Does our current sound system needs work with the LLC's sound policy in comparison to our placement?

We need to get these answers quickly as to not slow down the rest of community and the camp placement people by dragging our feet. Its obvious to me that they're giving us prime real estate and willing to work with on what we want. I think we should take advantage of the opportunity. Lets try and decide quickly so we can get the best spot! :)

Seems we're having trouble getting momentum going this year, but I do hope everyone is planning on camping together still. Bill, Brandon, Scott and I are purchasing one of the 18x30 carports you see in this link: http://www.alliedspecialtyproducts.com/shade_canopies.htm

I also plan to bring my other 12x20 shade for the kitchen area, if we need it. I'd like very much to go ahead with our Chill Womb idea especially if you've found momentum on the It's Your Birthday activities, Josh. We're prepared to rent sound equipment and I'd like very much to have a decorative theme for our camp with lights, cohesive color schemes, pillows, carpets, etc. The idea is to make this a very comfortable space for all of us and anyone who may wander into our camp.

Josh, are you going ahead with the IYBday idea? I'm certainly willing to help organize and I'm excited about having a home base that has a theme that gels with yours.

I guess we should start with a roll call again and see who's camping with us. Even with limited time left, we have enough infrastructure and good ideas that we can still put something together. Who's in? I'd love to have someone (more creatively inclined than I) to take lead on decorations and the theme if they're willing. I will commit 100% to helping make all of this happen.

Agni Tara?
hopefully two friends: Holly and JR if they can find tickets

I have a few questions for everyone out there.

Who is actually going to FS this year?

Is anyone interested in doing an actual theme camp this year?

If so what do we want to do?

With the crazy success of TAC id like to get everyone together for another one. Last year we took the year off but now I'd like to actually hunker down and get jiggy with our social corruptive skills of insanity distribution. I miss the synergy, the cooperation, the community, Bill's fajitas, licking people's minds, Kinkade's shade structure, Scott's missing photo ops, Zay's crystal art pieces, Johnny's paintings, Angi Tara's smiles, chillaxin with everyone, Chase's bags of shit, Boozer's deco, Frankie's fashion creativity, Ashtar's delicate jewelry, Jello's dancing impressions, and the list goes on and on. You get the idea. So basically i want to do something with my normal flipside family and I'm trying to get a feel out there of what people are doing or want to do this year.

If you're ARE interested in doing some kind of theme camp but not diggin the Its your birthday idea its all good. I'm open to anything at this point and would like to get a dialog of ideas flowing.

If you are among the crowd that will be too burnt out from Interfuse that is totally understandable. (there is a possibility i might go this year)

I like the idea of a theme camp that is fun, social, musical, interactive, ridiculous, funny, ect. So lets get a discussion going!

So peeps, sounds like we're doing a low key community camp this year. Getting back to our roots! That's totally cool with me. InterFuse blew us away and we're into low key chillin these days.

We're not planning to bring the dome and Chase isn't coming down with his large shade structure. In fact, we're a little scrunched for space. It is KEY to have a shade structure in the heat. So I'm wondering whether any of you are planning to bring something for the camp. Astar DOES have a 10X10 ez-up but we'd need more than that and like I said, we're scrunched for space. So if someone could bring something bigger and better, that would be awesome!

Also, since we're not a themecamp I'm assuming we'll have to camp whereever we can find space. Is anyone going to be there super early? Astar, Anji, and Jolly are rollin down on Wednesday and can grab some space if need be. Anyone have ideas or plans in the works for camp location?

That's it for now. I want to get us a greeter shift since we had so much fun with it in years past. I'll post more on that later when I check the greeter schedule.

See ya'll soon!

Once all ticket orders have arrived, the LLC and Ticket staff will count up the orders received during the postmark period. (The significant date is the date YOU send the order, not the date WE receive it.) If the number of tickets ordered is less than 2007, ALL orders will be filled.

If that number is greater than 2007, we will fill the orders for critical volunteers first. Critical volunteers are those necessary to ensure that the safety and infrastructure needs of all participants are met.

All postmark dates within the Jan 9 - 13 range are considered equal.

/i think that we pulled off the theme camp well and entertained lots of people. There are places we could improve but for our first theme camp it was great. I think Flipside and TAC will go off next year considering all the lessons learned this year at the new land.
• Alchemical Chi Gong Dome - Yoga exercises, breath work, meditations, Tai chi, lectures by Terrence Mckenna, Alex Grey, other burning man lectures... Perhaps some chanting (just making it up, comic relief or serious) discussion of Magic, herbal medicine, altered states, psychedelic drugs, Hallucinations, Motifs, Archetypes, Dreams, the subconscious, psychology, history, the future, society, books, movies, stories, myth, tribalism, fairy-tales, conspiracy theories, etc... In general like Polaris said... WORKSHOPS, in order to share information and raise awareness & empower ourselves and those around us.
• Objective - In order to inspire conversation, We should have Workshops and open discussions, furthermore have a relaxed open atmosphere which would channel people into our camp using Feng Shui. This camp would be very social and mega public.
• PSY-TRANCE PA - For dancin...
• Wireless Network - A table and chairs for computers and networking. (Get a Satellite dish connection or something...) LAN party? =)
• Media - To show or view films for discussion or entertainment...
• Art, posters - To inspire conversation of topics
• Feng-Shui - Feng Shui The whole camp for maximum comfort and appeal meaning ample placement of objects and ideal use of space.
• Kitchen - For preparing food (we'll need a propane grill and stove)
• Living room - For livin n’ chilin

WE ACCEPT YOUR APOLOGY.

From the time of your birth until now, you've been poked and prodded into following the herd...having people telling you what to believe and how to feel. If you find yourself reading this, obviously things haven't really changed much. But there's no need to despair. In fact, with T.A.C. you can finally rest easy in the safety and comfort of knowing that you are finally following the RIGHT flock.

What is T.A.C.?

T.A.C. is the special acronym handed down from His Holiness Herself for the sacred 'Temporary Arbitrary Cult.' At least...that's what we think. We know how much the Mighty Sacred One likes to play jokes when he has been drinking, so there's really no telling for sure. Perhaps it could stand for 'Turrets Afflicted Chickens.' But that's beside the point.

Is T.A.C. right for me?

Ask your doctor before starting T.A.C.. T.A.C. has been known to cause ego loss, enlarged breasts, increased libido, increased cholesterol levels, diarrhea of the mouth, public displays of flatulence, lowered inhibitions, hallucinations, euphoria, dizzyness, manic episodes, and uncontrollable ass-shaking. Please do not join T.A.C. if you are pregnant with a 15 pound disembodied eyeball. Do not operate a motor vehicle or heavy machinery while participating in T.A.C.. Do not make eye contact with T.A.C., or make threatening gestures. We know where you camp.

Ok, so Scott and I are going to take the lead on the PB&J and Kool-Aid sacrament. A few burning questions remain (pun intended.)

1. I know we ratified PB&J. Are we going with Kool-Aid on the drink? I think it's probably the cheapest and easiest to make in a pinch.

2. How many people do we expect to feed and how often?

a. Kool-Aid: As far as Kool-Aid we'll have to buy water buy the gallon so we'll probably need a SHITLOAD of those 2 gallon water jugs? Is there a more economical way to buy the water? I know they make those 5 gallon bottles but you need a dispenser for them. Kool-Aid packets are like 10 cents a pop or cheaper so we can figure out how many of those to buy after we figure out how many gallons of water we need. I'm guessing we'll give away more Kool-Aid than sandwiches. If my figures are correct, a gallon would contain 16 8oz glasses of Kool-Aid. I think we should maybe plan on giving away 200 cups a day?

b. PB&J: Costco is going to be our friend on both Kool-Aid and PB&J supplies. I'm hoping we can buy PB&J in the big school cafeteria sized plastic tubs and maybe jelly too. How many sandwiches do you guys think we need for the 4 days? I'm guessing we'll get 100 eating folks a day, maybe? Is that too high? Too low?

c. Cups, Trash, Containers, etc: We're going to need something to serve Kool-Aid in both in terms of storing it and giving it away. Trash is something to consider. I'm thinking maybe we tell people to bring their own cups (and plates if they need them for a sandwich) otherwise we're going to be throwing away a lot of cups and plates. We will, however, need a large cooler to serve the Kool-Aid from. I don't want to have to buy ice for everyone so I was thinking we get one of those tall orange coolers with the spigots at the bottom and just ice those down. Does anyone have one of those that they can bring? If not, Scott and I will buy or borrow one elsewhere.

Here's a list of the materials I think we need. Please provide input back on my questions above and add to the list below if you see another need I'm missing. If you have any of the materials I've listed below and can bring it (table and chairs for example) that would be great.

___Cooler
___Table
___Knives for spreading PB&J
___Assload of bread
___Shitload of PB
___Gangload of J
___Boatload of water
___Kool-Aid packets
___Large table for making and serving sandwiches and Kool-Aid
___Lots of that antibacterial hand-gel. Personally, I wouldn't want most Flipizens making my food until they'd washed their hands.
___Large plastic tupperware container to store bread, PB&J, and prepared sandwiches.
___This is just an idea, but I think it would be nice to construct one of those kneeling pads. Has anyone ever seen the little kneeling stools for communion?

Finally, we'll need to probably divide into shifts for serving our sacrament or decide on a set schedule each day for feeding the masses. I'm thinking it would be best for all if we offer communion between 11-1 and then again 6-8 each day (lunch and dinner obviously.) This keeps us from having to man the sandwich station all day with volunteers from our camp. If each of us take shifts in pairs we can handle this pretty easily. Those hours tend to be when everyone is at camp anyway.

As far as ways to make this entertaining, I think we should talk about PB&J and Kool-Aid offering instant enlightenment. When people claim to have not been enlightened by our sacrament we can just say "Well obviously YOU aren't the messiah."

Thoughts? I specifically need feedback on the quantities of food. Any other feedback and additions are very welcome.

Thanks,
Kincade

Ok, I decided to sort of make a command decision on the facade deco for our gazebo which will sort of serve as the face of our camp. You all have probably seen the gazebo image I posted. If not, take a look so you'll have an idea what I'm going for.

My idea essentially involves using Masonite panels to cover the "columns" of the gazebo. Masonite is basically that thin particle board that pegboard is made out of (without the pegholes, obviously.) It's easy to paint, lightweight (which is good since we'll be mounting on the gazebo and transporting it, and cheap. I'm going to cut panels of the masonite that fit the sides of each of the columns. On the insides of each column I'll put one panel as the hypotenuse of a triangle enclosing our columns. With some strategic drill-holes and heavy-duty zip-ties we can attach these panels to each other and, in turn, to the gazebo itself. I toyed with the idea of the quick-tube cardboard columns but they simply aren't big enough, unfortunately.

As far as deco for these columns I'm open to ideas but I had in mind painting each panel solid black. On the outside we'd use stencils to paint various religious symbols (ankh, cross, star of david, pentagram, etc) and nonsensical symbols (TAC symbol, alien heads, spaceships, hieroglyphic crap, etc) and basically put these symbols randomly in lines that run up and down the length of the columns inside and out with perhaps two vertical rows per panel. I envisioned silver spraypaint for the symbols because I think it would look good on a black background. On the inside panels I was thinking about either sticking with silver or better yet using blacklight paints. I'm debating attempting to paint the canvas roof and put our symbol on it but i'm not sure how well that will work on cloth. Also we could enclose the sides with lattice board which would make the gazebo sort of a tunnel entrance to our dome while still allowing air circulation, but that's up for debate.

I have other things such as a huge rug and paper lantern string lights with symbols on them, and candle lanterns hanging on the hooks on the front entrance of the gazebo in mind for deco. If we have a way to surround the whole thing in curtains I think that would be a nice touch too.

This weekend, provided the gazebo comes and I can measure it, I think I can use help making stencils, painting and of course brainstorming for further deco ideas as well as constructing the gazebo to get a feel for its scale. If anyone has any other easy to implement ideas, please send them my way. While I'd like to get elaborate, at this point in the game we need practical (i.e. something that can be done in the next 3 weeks.) Any of you who can come down, Scott and I would appreciate the help.

Fuck, I'm long-winded...sorry.

Rox finished the cover for the bible today. Its basically a 3 ring binder covered on all faces with fake leather. As mentioned previously, I would like to burn our symbol into the cover of it once we get a stencil

Inside the bible will be mainly mad-libs that I still need to work on. The first page will be an intro to our cult and an invite for participants to fill out the mad-libs. I've drafted that below.

Josh Meredith & anyone else - I think its perfectly fine for us to be more specific on our mythos in other areas (deco, rituals, etc.). However, given that this text is essentially an invite for participants to help us shape our mythos, it doesn't make sense to be too specific in this context, IMHO.

OK, here it is. feedback is welcome. My only constraints are that i want it to be 1 page in fairly large font (14 or up) so I can't write a novel. Speaking of fonts, any advice on which one to use is appreciated. I'd like to do one that is cursive style.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello there, curious soul! Please read on, as Temporary Arbitrary Cult (TAC), the only correct religion in the universe, is in desperate need of your help! You must help us find our messiah!
Our prophet has foretold “I will open a wormhole and return to Zion for four nights when the free spirits gather in the oily land where the peppering occurred when the great comet passes through the cosmos. I will walk amongst the pagans. If you find and acknowledge me as your savior, you will be rewarded with eternal life, happiness, and all the PB&J you can eat. If you do not find me before the fournight ends, the time-space continuum will collapse upon itself in vacuous apocalypse, never to be again.”
It took us several lifetimes to fully comprehend this cryptic augury, but we finally succeeded. The free spirits are, of course, all of you – those who reject the mundane in search of the absurdly sacred. “The oily land where the peppering occurred” was a mystery for millennia. But when Dick Cheney nailed Harry Whittington with bird shot while hunting in Texas, this great riddle was solved. Our brother, Eric Julien (a former French military air traffic controller and senior airport manager), recently revealed that “the great comet” must certainly be the Schwassman-Wachmann Comet 73P, which will pass over Earth on Thursday May 25, 2006 thus beginning the four days that our savior will walk amongst the patchouli-soaked heathens. This can be no coincidence, it is synchronous providence for certain.
The magnitude of this is obvious to us all now… we know our messiah walks amongst us in Pyropolis 2006. “It” will arrive on Thursday and if we don not locate it by Sunday night, the universe will cease to exist…….. Yes, this does mean that the burn will not happen! So, clearly you must help us find our messiah! Who knows, it could be you!?! How can you help us find out messiah, you ask? The answer is simple. Our messiah is the only person who knows the complete story of life, the universe, and everything. Simply help us gain a deeper understanding of the great mysteries of life by scribing in the following pages of our holy text. Although we don’t know all the answers ourselves, the direct link from our souls through the universal neural network to the One will certainly allow us to instantly recognize the thoughts of our savior. After all, his thoughts created us…
So, do not linger! The fate of Flipside and the universe depends on you. Tell us your story, so we may determine if you are our god!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Cheaper than smaller trucks from Ryder and Budget, UHaul was all booked up. The truck size is somewhat overkill for our needs, so I've offered some space to the village of nod. To help me a get a better idea of how much space we will have to offer, can you let me know if you want to transport something on the truck? Stuff I know we will have includes:

From Michael of NOD:

Nod Community Members,

As we move forward with our community project, there are a number of things we'd like to incorporate into the village in order to create a more spectacular presence at Flipside 2006.

We are also looking for project leads.

PromeNod Torches:
We'd like to run tiki torches down the length of the PromeNod. The more torches, the better. The torches would run from the Burn Circle side entrance straight down the PromeNod to the Electric Numbtastic pyramid. Calamity June and I have about 18 torches that can be used for this. Does anyone else have torches? Does someone from one of the Nod camps want to step forward and be in charge of getting the torches placed, keeping the torch can filled with fuel, and coordinating the daily lighting of torches?

Nod Lighting:
We'd like to augment the travel areas in Nod with some kind of additional lighting. Does anyone have colored lights (preferably red, purple, or gold/yellow) to light our community spaces with? Does anyone want to step forward and coordinate this effort?

Garden of Wrong Art Space:
The Garden of Wrong represents a dedicated art space for Nod art projects. It is situated beneath one of the big oaks on the burn circle perimeter. We'd also like to encourage everyone to contribute to this space. One of the features we've discussed is creating a 2D artwork wall using t-stakes and strong clothes lines. We could hang waterproof works of visual art from the lines to create a tapestry wall of artwork. We also welcome sculptures and other installations. We need someone to take charge of coordinating and placing art in this area. Does anyone want to volunteer?

Directional Signs:
Calamity June and Angelique recently sent out an announcement inviting folks to come out to the Warehouse in Austin this Wednesday ( April 26, 2006) at 7:00-ish to make directional signs for Nod. We are making 4 sign posts to be placed at several key points in Nod. These will be wooden "arrow" signs with the names of camps/features painted on them. While we'll make a lot of progress on Wednesday, it is likely we'll need another Nod project day. Does anyone want to volunteer to be the Nod signage coordinator?

Nod Stickers/Shwag:
Several folks have discussed getting stickers made of the Nod logo. The high resolution artwork is available in the files section of the Nod Yahoo Group site. I can also work with the design to include all the camp names, Flipside 2006. If anyone is interested in making this happen, that'd be awesome. If anyone has any Nod-specific shwag they'd like to make that requires high-resolution artwork, please contact michael 7.0 at m7.0@mac.com.

Nod Village Guide:
Several folks have discussed creating a Nod Newspaper. This is basically a large double-tabloid printed paper that includes bios on each camp, scheduled activities, and locations. We'd have them distributed at all major information areas. Does anyone want to volunteer to make this happen?

Nod Area Planning (On-Site):
One of the big tasks ahead of us is the proper layout of the Nod area. We are hoping to have the entire Nod area properly measured and marked by Thursday, May 25, 2006. Mark Emerson of the Chupacabra Policia is lending us a medium strength laser that can be used to help survey and mark the Nod area. We'll use it to assess straight lines, etc. If at all possible, we would like to have a contingent of folks who may be on-site on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 to measure the area and grid out each camp site. If you would like to volunteer to help with this task, please let us know in advance.

Nod Power/Generators:
Several camps have gathered together to share a central generator and power source. If your camp would like to share power with another camp, please post this to the list. The Glory Hole/Officer's Club/Wonderlounge/Church of Lost Dreams generator is already a done deal. They can't take any more camps. Perhaps Smash Camp could work with the Whiskey Lounge to share a power source.

Nod Community Truck:
We will be renting a truck for the Nod community. We've already committed to hauling COLD, Glory Hole, Officer's Club, and Wonderlounge equipment with this vehicle. If your camp would like to equipment onto this project, please let us know as soon as possible. There is a nominal fee (per camp) involved with this effort.

Nod Events:
Many individual camps are holding activities and events. For example, "The Drunken Olympics" will occur in two locations in Nod. We also have two performance stages in Nod (The Glory Hole Theater and the Smash Camp stage). If your camp would like to hold or organize a specific Nod activity, let us know. We do need a Nod Activity/Events coordinator. The Glory Hole Theater is being coordinated by Courtney Deginder and the Smash Camp stage is being coordinated by Tonja and Mark of Smash Camp.

Safety/Earth Guardian Representative:
We've got a lot of camps relatively close together. We're anticipating a lot of guidelines, rebar, fire, etc. Does anyone want to step forward to ensure that Nod camps adhere to safety and earth guardian guidelines? Please let us know.

Volunteer!
There are a number of existing opportunities for Nod members to participate as volunteers at Flipside 2006. Parking, Recycling, Earth Guardians, and a number of other infrastructure activities are still in search of volunteer help. We encourage every Nod member to sign-up for at least one volunteer shift.

If anyone has additional ideas that we could incorporate into Nod to make it a better village, please speak up. This is a grand experiment open to everyone. Currently, we've got a small number of people making everything "go". We are going to need to augment there activities lest they get burnt out. If you've got the time and the inclination to take ownership of some aspect of Nod, do not hesitate to step forward.

Thanks!

We got 2 1/2 months to make this camp happen! To Kincade's earlier post -- what are some good days for folks to attend some conference calls to get the planning kick started? Since I am in the Pacifici time zone, 7 PM PST or later works best for me, Tues - Thurs probably my preference. But I can do weekends, too.

Kelsey, Emilio, Astar, Quentin - Very sorry we did not get the full amount of tickets. We will do everything possible to ensure you can join us.

Want to get a thread going about the façade / visual identity of our camp. But also to propose a conference call this Thursday evening at 9 PM CDT / 7 PM PDT. 888-232-0362, 431232. Agenda will be specifically to discuss our physical camp design.

OK, so on this tip. We got Schon’s place to build and store at. We got Kincade who’s willing to help a lot. We got Skywise with sketches and offers to design the thing. We only need a few more people to step up and drive this thing. Scott? Keith? Josh? Where’s Smiley at? :-) Everyone is going to be in Austin the weekend of the 29th, it would be an excellent time to do a work weekend at Schon’s, provided the plans are well developed enough to warrant it. None of us are stuck on having a façade or not or any particular look for the camp as far as I know, we just need a somewhat coherent visual identity for our space that lets people know who we are and hopefully encourages them to come play with us. Do some thinking. Look at my floor plan. Look at Josh’s sketch. Come to the conference call.

Finally, I received this email from Michael 7.0:

“Bill,

Greetings! I am writing you to extend a golden invitation for your theme
camp to be placed in the People's Democratic Republik of Nod. This is a
large village located in the northern/northwestern portion of Playadise.

Nod includes:

The Seven Deadly Sins Bar & Grill (Wonderlounge)
The Officer's Club (Chupacabra Policia)
The Church of Lost Dreams (C.O.L.D. Camp)
The Glory Hole Theater
Smash/Recycle Camp

Additionally, the village includes:

The Glory Hole Theater stage
The Smash Camp stage
The Gauntlet Obstacle Course
The C.O.L.D. Library
The STD Kissing Booth

and many incidental works of edgy art.

Word of your theme camp got around during the application process and
many of us were really excited about what you folks were doing. Nod is
basically a village within a village. Our aesthetic is edgy, snarky,
wrong, rowdy, humorous, dark, and fun. I am placing the camps within Nod
and would love to have you folks as neighbors. What do you say?

Thanks,
michael 7.0
Nod Village Coordinator”

Personally, I am flattered that word of our camp got around and people are into it. However, and I know this is my personality, I also feel more pressure and thus motivation. I think we all should, but not so much that its unproductive…

At any rate, I responded to Michael that we’d discuss and get back to him. Much like we discussed w.r.t. camp placement, I don’t feel comfortable accepting this invitation unless things come together pronto on the physical space design. I would love to accept the invitation, however. These are all good people and COLD would be easy to collaborate with.

Thoughts?

Talk to you Thursday…

Of course, we'll know more once we see it, but I'm hoping to solicit ideas for decorating it. Take a look at the larger pic on that link. If possible I think it would be cool to close in the sides and make this kinda like a tunnel. Any ideas for enclosing the sides other than curtains?

Ideas I had so far:
1. The gazebo has two hooks coming off the front...perfect for lanterns of some sort.
2. Stained glass replicas
3. Sign across the top which I'll be working on a design for.
4. Painting symbols on the top
5. A flag coming out of the top of the pagoda (if it's possible to mount)
6. Wooden facades on the columns painted with symbols, fake mortar, etc.

Any other ideas? Once I get the gazebo, I'll send out exact dimensions on the metal support columns, height, etc. So far we know it's 10x10. I believe it probably has 6.5-7 feet of clearance in each entryway.
NOD Leads, theme camp contacts, please forward this message to your theme camp lists.

I have a vision of sign posts and creative lighting throughout the glorious land of NOD. Execution of this vision begins now. Read on.

NOD SIGN MAKING NIGHT (part 1)
This Wednesday night @ The Warehouse

Supply Wish list:
Plywood
4x4s
Jigsaws
Paint: red and black
Wood stain
paint brushes

Protective goggles
Rulers, drafting tools, pencils, lettering templates

Jobs for Volunteers:

Drafters: These are anal retentive perfectionists who like to draw, plan, and sketch. Can you make stylish LeTteRs? Are you anal retentive enough to draw a straight line? Use rulers to measure accurately? Trace around templates? Draw the same shape over and over again with a determination to make them all look uniform? This job is for you.
Sawmonkeys: If you have your own jigsaw you are in. Anyone with a jigsaw or the ability to use one, you will be cutting straight lines and curves. There are 52 directional arrows to be cut out so even if you have never used a jigsaw before this is a good time to learn. Sawmonkeys are likely to get tired and they will need Apprentice Sawmonkeys to help out.
Painters: You like the smell of latex and wood stain. You care deeply about the delicate fibers of paintbrushes and would never harm one by letting paint or stain dry on it.

Workstations:

Drafting Station: Drafters will mark raw plywood with cutting templates and then send them to the Sawmonkeys.
Drafters will outline stylish lettering and borders on dry signs and then send them to the Painters.
Cutting stations: 1 cutting station per saw
Sawmonkeys will cut out the wood templates while wearing protective goggles. Each cutting station will have extra pairs of goggles.
Painting station: Signs will be stained with wood stain
After background stain is dry they will be sent back to the drafting station for lettering.
Painters will fill in the lettering in black, and outlines in red.
Each painting station will have a can or turpentine and a bucket of water.
***Latex paint washes off with water, wood stain washes off with turpentine.***
Painters will be responsible for cleaning the brushes.
All brushes will be cleaned! No brushes will be destroyed by allowing stain or paint to dry on them! Got it? This is real simple.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also, an update - the fake stained glass paint will stick to the Fluorescent Lighting panels/covers available at home dept for ~ $5. Once we get the symbol stencil from Scott & Johnny, I will gladly make a panel of it. But I am not the best artist by any stretch, so i encourage anyone/everyone else to make one, too.
Finally, does anyone have ideas for hanging/mounting the deco like saint portaits and stained glass? Assuming there will be an insufficient amount of tress to do so?
Thought I'd start a new brainstorming thread...
We need to be easily identifiable as members of the Temporary Arbitrary Cult. What are we going to wear and what symbol(s) will identify us? Shaved heads and silly hats have been discussed but I think we need some sort of costumes or religious garb that identify us as brothers and sisters of our mercurial order also.
Robes? Loinclothes? Capes with our TBD symbol? Grass skirts and coconuts? Tribal body painting? Something more contemporary like the Heaven's Gate people and their purple jumpsuits? Space suits?
One thing to consider is it's going to be HOT! We all know that from past experience but it may be unusually hot this year.. It's been in the 70's and 80s since January here so the end of May could be brutal. For that reason (and the fact that I'm fuggin' sexy) I'm more inclined to go with loincloth than robes or jumpsuits. :-)
As for our symbol, it also needs to be absolutely ridiculous. This camp needs to be funny and absurd. I want to walk away from encounters with people and look back to see them scratching their heads with puzzled looks on their faces.
It could be argued that we need to work out our mythos first then decide symbol and costume, but maybe since we're the temporary arbitrary cult we should work backwards to help with the mythos.
Thoughts? I'll compile a list from this thread and we can vote later.
I sent our gracious no to the Nod Village coordinator, Michael 7.0. He won't take no for an answer! :-) We exchanged several emails, and he has very come close to swaying me because they so much want us to camp with them and love our idea... and continue to be very generous. I hesitate to undo a decision we just made but I want to share the highlights and see what you all think. He needs a response by END OF DAY FRIDAY
- If you've not visited the land, you wouldn't know that Babylonia is terrible camping. It's all trees and rocks and hardly a large enough space for most of the large camps. Babylonia is also all sloping hill except for a few, small choice spots. NONE of Babylonia has been cleared of cactus. I remember walking through there a few weeks ago and commented to both Tom and Rusty that the area could only support a handful of tiny camps... private 4 person camps and the like.
- It will be tough to get that much space [BH – I requested 20k sq ft which maybe too much]. You guys would have to have a lot more pull (and luck) than many of the leads.
- I just had to reorganize everything. I moved you folks southwest below Wonderlounge next to the two big oaks off the burn circle. It's a huge (somewhat shaded flat spot). It's not right in thick either. I measured out 200x100 feet on the map. In the attached graphic, you'll notice it as the giant green box. Your camp would effectively be larger than many of the larger, more well-established camps. What are you folks doing with your space? Can I ask? The pyramid commands under 100x100 feet and it's the biggest structure at Flipside (in terms of size). [see map @ http://foodcamp.tribe.net/photos/eef11e8c-2d57-407f-808a-6406ef08da8c ]
re: Sound / Peace and Quiet
- The Chupas won't have a compound this year. Our camp's sound system is relatively modest.
- Most of the loud noise in our area will come from the pyramid, although the sound reach diminishes significantly after 100 feet. That is why you'll notice there is no camp placed within a 100' of them. The sound from the Glory Hole Stage will go directly west. The same for Whiskey bar. The CP area will be boisterous and noisy at best. Our sound system is designed strictly for our listening pleasure this year.
- There is a sound policy in effect that has most camps' systems pointing to the northwest (into Babylonia). I've designed Nod in such a way that all the loud camps are north and the quieter ones are to the south. That said, Playadise from east to west will be thumping and all that sound will travel over into Babylonia. If you want real quiet, try Elysian Fields or Mezzanine.
In the new location where I had you folks, I put you south of Wonderlounge. Very cool folks. You are also smack in (what I believe) one of the best camping spots on Playadise. I had other folks ask for that area, but Calamity June (my fiancee who is on the CC) thought your camp application rocked. We really wanted to witness your stuff. To your east, there's two huge oak trees (also the only "real" shade on Playadise - a huge "score" for Nod). We're using that area as a community/chill space for Nod residents. Also a place for installations. Also note that we actually cleared that spot of cactus and cedar where I was placing you folks. The only reason Wonderlounge isn't there is because we're sharing a huge generator with them, COLD, and Glory Hole.
They will keep the space reserved for us through tomorrow, then will give it away to someone else who as been asking for it.
OK, I am convinced :-) I know we would have a ton to do and ton of pressure on us, but I don’t really see how we can turn down this offer. I see no reason for Michal to BS us on any of this and I am inspired. Whaddya say, wanna step it up?
What will occur on May 25, 2006? Perhaps a planetary catastrophe originating from the Atlantic Ocean due to a medium size impact event. On this assumption, a series of giant waves, including one méga tsunami almost two hundred meters in height, will be born from a succession of underwater eruptions. These watery giants, decreasing with distance, will touch the majority of the Atlantic coasts; in particular, those most at risk lie between the equator and the tropic of Cancer. The victims of May 25 2006 will be tens of millions. The devastated survivors will be more numerous still. The economic losses will be enormous, well beyond the scales of destruction hitherto tested by our civilization. North America and Europe will not be saved, but will be affected in less dramatic proportions. By extension, other remote countries will be also affected.
KEALAKEKUA, Hawaii, April 13 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Eric Julien, a former French military air traffic controller and senior airport manager, has completed a study of the comet 73P Schwassmann- Wachmann and declared that a fragment is highly likely to impact the Earth on or around May 25, 2006.
Comet Schwassman-Wachmann follows a five-year orbit that crosses the solar system's ecliptic plane. It has followed its five year orbit intact for centuries; but, in 1995, mysteriously fragmented. According to Julien, this is the same year that a crop circle appeared showing the inner solar system with the Earth missing from its orbit. He argues the "Missing Earth" crop circle was a message from higher intelligences warning humanity of the consequences of its destructive nuclear policies. He links this crop circle to May 25, 2006, and identifies the comet Schwassmann-Wachman as the subject of higher intelligence communications.
Using NASA simulations of the comet's path, Julien concludes that impact is likely around May 25 precisely when the comet crosses the Earth's ecliptic plane. While the first fragment will cross at approximately 10 million miles, lagging fragments threaten to collide. While astronomers have stated that the comet poses no direct threat, Julien argues that some fragments are too small to observe. Astronomers have predicted possible meteor showers indicating some cometary debris will enter the atmosphere.
Julien argues that the kinetic energy of even a 'car sized' fragment will impact the Earth with devastating effect. He concludes the May 25 event is tied in to the Bush administration's policy of preemptive use of nuclear weapons against Iran, and the effect of nuclear weapons on the realms of higher intelligences. Regarding its importance, Julien declares: "we have to save lives when we have such information to share with the public". He further claims it important "to preserve all data, historical artifacts and precious material in the event of such a collision." Julien predicts that the comet collision will occur in the Atlantic Ocean between the Equator and the Tropic of Cancer, and generates 200 meter waves. Julien concludes that "each person with this information has to take responsibility to warn potential victims."
